This tiny, power-packed module takes in the native Component video and analog audio output from the Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 and outputs a crisp HDMI™video stream. This module utilizes a fully custom PCB with a higher quality, next generation IC compared to what is typically used on the widely available, low quality analog-to-digital modules that are readily available online. The low quality construction of those other modules often leads to video and audio with interference that inhibits enjoyable gameplay. If you are not happy with those modules, then you will absolutely be happy with these.

Note: The ElectronPulse requires an external 5V power supply to be provided via the USB Type-C connector next to the HDMI port on the module. This can come from the USB ports on the front of your PS2 (if they exist on your model) or from an external power supply such as a phone charger or similar.

Features

These are compatible with the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. This is not compatible with the PlayStation 1, but PS1 games can be played with the PS2 using this module (see the Important Information section for more information).

These modules do not provide any video scaling, so the output resolution is equal to the input resolution received. Some TVs/displays do not accept 240p and 480i resolutions from an HDMI input.

This module efficiently supports all of the resolutions that are default to the PS2 and PS3.

PlayStation 2:

NTSC Consoles:

  • 240p, 480i, 480p*

PAL Consoles:

  • 288p, 576i, 480i, 480p*, 576p

*480p supported only by select games via YPbPr component output. 240p/288p used by many PS1/PS2 titles (especially 2D or retro-style games).

PlayStation 3:

NTSC & PAL Consoles:

  • 480i, 480p, 576i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

Special Instructions

Prior to using this device the output video mode must be set to component video output.

Playstation 2:

  • Go to the System Configuration menu, select "Component Video Out," then select the YPbPr mode. (RGB mode will not work!)

To change the video settings without having a video displayed on the TV, perform the following:

  • Start the console with no disc inserted.
  • Wait 10 seconds to get to the main menu.
  • Press ↓ then X.
  • Wait 3 seconds to make sure you're in the configuration menu.
  • Press ↓, ↓, ↓, then X.
  • Press →, X.

This will alternate between YPbPr and RGB modes. If this still isn't working I'd suggest finding a Composite AV lead (CVBS) and use that.

Playstation 3:

  • Go to Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings, then choose "Component AV Cable."
  • Select the desired resolution (e.g., 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) based on your TV's capabilities.
Important Information

These modules are not compatible with the Playstation 1 but they are compatible with Playstation 1 games when played on the other consoles. Some TVs/displays are not compatible with Playstation 1 games. Please read the "Resolution Switching" section on RetroRGB here: https://www.retrorgb.com/playstation1.html.

Lag/Latency Information

The core technology at the heart of the ElectronPulse does not introduce any lag or latency in the output image. That means that the provided input analog video is quickly converted into the same resolution output video via HDMI™.

However, it is important to note that some TVs and displays are unable to properly process low resolution 480i HDMI™ video without introducing some noticeable lag on the output.  If that occurs with your display, then it is recommended to utilize a high quality, low latency HDMI™ scaler on the output of the ElectronPulse to scale the 480i video to a higher resolution prior to being received by your display.

These scalers include the following (non-affiliate links) in order from most-to-least capable:

This worked perfect!
My old monster component (red, blue, green) a/v cables were actually going bad and causing the picture to go green and then black and white. Troubleshot this by using composite (yellow) a/v cables that I had from my PS3 still. So after doing some research on HDMI adapters, I went with this one.
Bought a new wall charger along with a blue and black colored USB A to USB C cable so I could power it. I have the HDMI going through my receiver and it gets upconverted from there to 720p and then thru a M Classic adapter to 1080p to the tv. 1080p picture looks nice! and I’m using the optical out (& a fiber optic cable) on the PS2 for digital sound.
Some of this may seem overkill, but the M classic alone will not upconvert a 480i signal from the PS2 unfortunately, only once it gets up to 480p.
Hope this helps!

Excited to play my PS2 again.

This HDMI convertor allows me to play without using my old analog cable. This does require an independent power cable but good thing the engineer used USB Type-C which is now a standard cable. I went with this device instead of Amazon after being impressed with the YouTube reviews for the ElectronWarp for the Wii.

Overall, I'm glad I bought this.

Overall I'm glad I bought this so I have the option to use HDMI with my PS2 slim, but I do have an old Trinitron that does a much better job over component with the image. This kind of blurs the pixels a bit too much on my modern TV. Could be me not knowing if my modern TV is configured properly too.

Have been searching for the perfect product, finally have found it!

I purchased a PS2 in the late spring of 2025 and have done extensive research on how to get the perfect picture quality for a modern-day flats screen tv. I purchased a $10 HDMI converter on amazon that was suggested by many people to enhance my picture quality. The quality was still very dark and grainy with a blurry look to it as opposed to the generic component av cables. Then my friend referred me to this product. I felt that the price was within my budget and had great reviews, so I decided to purchase it. That was the best decision I made for my issues. The picture quality is bright and crystal clear on my tv and has perfect sound quality. I'm very happy with this product and for the price. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone who wants perfect picture/sound quality!
